1st Grade Expectations

Students must have completed Kindergarten

Monday -Friday 8:30-3:00

First-grade students at HCA will cover a variety of foundational subjects, all integrated with a biblical worldview. Here’s a brief summary of what they’ll learn:

Phonics and Reading: Students will develop phonemic awareness, phonics skills, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension. They’ll read a variety of genres and learn to evaluate texts through biblical themes like love, courage, and perseverance.
Math: Foundational math skills are taught using manipulatives, authentic activities, STEM activities, and word problems.
Science: Students will explore scientific inquiry and concepts from a biblical perspective.

Spanish: Students will continue learning Spanish as a 2nd language

Art: Students will explore and learn about different styles of art.
Heritage Studies: This includes social studies topics like family, community, and the history of the United States.
Bible Truths: Lessons focus on familiar biblical characters and stories to teach moral and spiritual lessons.
Spelling and Handwriting: Students will learn to spell words using patterns and develop their handwriting skills.
